The prominent theme of friendship is a vital aspect in The Epic of Gilgamesh, illustrating the root cause of Gilgamesh’s sorrow and his desperate attempts to revive his companion Enkidu. Additionally, it showcases the unwavering loyalty that can be found in genuine friendships. Enkidu, who previously only associated with animals, believed in the enduring nature of their bond after hearing the wise words spoken by both the prostitute and Ninsun: “There will come an individual,” she solemnly stated, “A comrade who possesses equal strength as you and remains loyal; An individual whom you will never be apart from and whom you will never wish to part ways with.” Gilgamesh carefully absorbed these interpretations regarding his dream.
